St. Gianna Church

St. Gianna church is an extremely complex steel structure. There are no straight walls in this project. A series of intersecting circles of varying diameters created the exterior layout of the building.
The main building steel consists of multiple frames built from three HSS columns with rolled HSS braces and girts tying them together. Two massive beams each 37m long with an unsupported span of over 19m. These beams needed to be shipped to site in two pieces and erected with two cranes using a bolted connection at mid-span. Each half of the beam weighed over 9000kgs.
