U of M Richardson Centre

The biggest challenge with this job was having the ‘tree’ columns appear to be seamless.  The wide flange columns needed to split into three or even four pieces at the top.  Plates were cut and shaped to make the curving branches and shop welded together into one piece.  These columns begin outside of the building and continue to run down the entire main corridor of the building and are all exposed.  A total of 30 ‘tree’ columns were used on this project.
